Alert for Klebsiella pneumoniae septicaemia in piglets APHA Disease Surveillance

چکیده

Musculoskeletal disease ‘White muscle disease’ (WMD) was diagnosed on four occasions at Shrewsbury in suckler calves. Although reports of suspected WMD (or ‘nutritional myopathy’) are received at this time each year, samples are not often received for diagnosis. In each calf there were typical signs reported including reluctance to stand and walking with a stiff gait. A summary of the results is tabulated below which shows the value of testing blood for evidence of muscle damage, as the creatine kinase (CK) activity rises massively in WMD. Vitamin E concentrations were consistently low and three of the four animals were also identified with low selenium status (measured by glutathione peroxidase, GSH-Px, activity).

Bacteriological profile of neonatal septicaemia in a tertiary hospital in Nigeria.

BACKGROUND Neonatal septicaemia is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Knowledge of the bacteriological profile of the aetiologic agents is very important and helps to reduce the associated mortality in neonatal septicaemia. OBJECTIVE To determine the bacteriological profile of common aetiologic agents of neonatal septicaemia and their antibiotics sensitivity pattern. METHOD This...

Outbreak of extended spectrum beta lactamase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in a neonatal unit.

An outbreak of extended spectrum beta lactamase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (ESBLKp) in a neonatal unit was controlled using simple measures. Normally, the control of such infections can be time consuming and expensive. Seven cases of septicaemia resulted in two deaths. ESBLKp isolates were subtyped by pulsed field gel electrophoresis, and four of the five isolates typed were identical. Con...

Emergence of Klebsiella pneumoniae subspecies pneumoniae as a cause of septicaemia in pigs in England

Between 2011 and 2014 outbreaks of septicaemia due to Klebsiella pneumoniae subspecies pneumoniae (Kpp) were diagnosed on thirteen English pig farms. The most consistent features were rapid deaths of pigs from ten-days-old to weaning, seasonal occurrence (May to September), affected farms being outdoor breeding herds and the location of all but one of the outbreaks in the East Anglia region in ...

This study was conducted to find out the antimicrobial susceptibility characteristics of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Klebsiella oxytoca isolated from invasive disease cases at tertiary care university hospital in the central region of Japan from 2008 to 2010. Invasive bacterial disease was defined as isolation of bacteria from a normally sterile body site. Bacteriawere identifi...
